Wild Basketry Workshops

“You will learn so much more than how to make a basket. It’s also about reading the landscape, fostering a connection with nature, and being a part of a community of other basketmakers.”

If you have ever looked outside and wondered what you could make with the vines on your fence or the grasses in your yard, then wild basketry is for you! It is my goal that every student leave my classes with more than completed baskets, concrete skills, and knowledge of weaving techniques. I also focus heavily on building a relationship with the natural world, which includes everything from plant identification to ethical foraging.

2026 is going to be a year of new explorations. My book comes out in April, along with book release events, workshops, and book signings. This means shorter events that more people can join. I’ll also be expanding my online and digital offerings in an effort to reach more people than I’m able to reach with in-person classes. There will still be in-person basketry and foraging classes though, because how could I not? I’ll be releasing new offerings as I am able, given my additional role as the mother of a one-year old! So keep checking in throughout the year and join my mailing list to hear about the newest classes.

Many thanks,

Katie

Katie’s class was life changing in so many ways. Harvesting and working with the plants and trees connected me more deeply to nature and where I live. Weaving around a fire with beautiful people made me feel like this is the point of life.

Testimonials

“Learning to weave with Katie has been such a gift in my life! Working with a variety of plants and materials has been such a joy, and as someone who already had a strong relationship with plants before, I can gladly say that the time spent weaving in a group class with her has deepened my relationship with plants, fellow weavers, and with myself.  Katie is not only a very talented artist and weaver, but she is also a truly gifted teacher - she is one of the most patient, kind, talented teachers of any kind that I have ever worked with, and I am so grateful to have learned about weaving, teaching, and holding space for others with her.

Katie’s wild basketry course taught me how to see what’s growing around me and use it respectfully. That was exactly what I’d been looking for.

Weaving community with every group

In all my workshops I strive to meet each student where they are at as makers and learners, whether they are a beginner who doesn’t feel confident in their creativity, or an experienced crafter. I love guiding students through the process and teaching them in a way that lands with their own individual needs. At the same time I create a container that encourages community and friendship, whether it is a one day workshop, an online class, or my 9 month Wild Basketry series. It has been one of the greatest gifts I’ve every received in my life to see groups of strangers form bonds over plants and baskets. Each workshop starts and ends with a circle where everyone shares something that helps bring us together as a group. This could be sharing a gratitude, why they are inspired to be in basket class that day, or what lessons they are taking home. The space we inhabit as a group ends up being just as important as the baskets we create together.
